#Playlist_Flying High

The highlight of my 2012 playlist has definitely got to be Flying Lotus' drop of heaven onto this rancid earth- the much anticipated Until the Quiet Comes. A new collection of genre defying evolution of sounds, this album consists of the characteristic chimes of the ethereal sea-shells-by-the-sea-shore vibes that define Flying Lotus' (aka Steven Ellison) insane talent... that signature touch of serenity and clarity that leaves the soul rehabilitated and rejuvenated...

However with this album one notes some effort towards diversity- from jovial mood boosters, to spirit haunters, to smooth jazzy undertones and the somewhat odd urban grit. I love the hint of lyricism by songstresses so angelic to make you feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is already upon you...

Not to mention the superb and totally appropriate collaborations that truly make this album feel more than an experimental project. Flying Lo reached out to his kindred spirit Thundercat in the sedative DMT, and other peers from a parallel universe such as Erykah Badu. Most arresting, is the genius pairing with Thom Yorke from Radiohead in the shiver inducing Electric Candyman.

The trailer to the album, a short film by Kahlil Joseph, was no less enchanting. Perceptive, and poetic... a sense of a sliver of silver lining within resurrection and hope, from the desolation of disenfranchisement..

a perfect provocation to what satisfied as a galaxy of sound and results profound.
